Winter maternity pictures can be just as beautiful

Thinking about getting maternity pictures done, but it’s freezing cold and maybe snowy, or maybe brown and dead? Those can still be just as beautiful as any other time of year!

When is the best time to take maternity pictures?

Maternity pictures can happen during any stage of pregnancy. However, there are times that are a little better, especially if you want your bump to be more prominent and you don’t want to be too uncomfortable. Between 28 and 34 weeks can be the best time, especially if you are a first time mom. If you have had more than one child, you could take them earlier as you feel comfortable.

What should I wear?

This is all up to you! What’s your style or what do you feel comfortable in? Some love to wear formal dresses, especially ones that emphasize the baby bump. To stay warm, you could add accessories such as a cape or scarf to help stay warm or add to the outfit’s look.

Others tend toward a more casual style, and especially in winter, layers are awesome! Jackets or vests with scarves and boots are super cute and keep you warm at the same time.

Pink Blush Maternity is a great online option for beautiful maternity clothes, especially dresses for your session. A local store, Piper and Scoot, offer a range of women’s clothing, but some that are especially maternity friendly. Of course, there’s always Amazon, which carries a wide range of maternity dresses perfect for a winter photoshoot.

I love the examples shown here of beautiful women, no matter how they’re dressed. I was honored to also film and capture the birth of Dani’s baby a few months after this photo shoot. You can read all about that here! I just love birth stories!

What if I feel insecure as a pregnant woman?

Whenever you choose to have your pictures taken, whatever you choose to wear, trust me as your photographer that I will pose you in the best way. There are poses that will de-emphasize the unflattering parts as well as emphasize the things you want to be the focus. Pregnancy can be filled with so many emotions, but it’s worthy of documentation, as well as showcasing the accomplishment of carrying a baby (or two or three!). It’s hard work, and you deserve to feel beautiful and to see the beauty that is being pregnant.
